The chocolate cyst, or by its medical name “endometriosis”, is a problem that is quite common among women. Although the chocolate cyst, which is seen in 1 in every 10 women, is very common, because it is neither easy to diagnose nor taken seriously it can herald many health problems.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taner Usta, specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology, gave very useful information about the chocolate cyst (endometriosis) and underlined that it can also cause depression.
IT HAS NO CHEMICAL EFFECT THAT DIRECTLY TRIGGERS DEPRESSION
The chocolate cyst has no chemical effect that directly triggers depression. However, because the presence of the cyst affects the person’s quality of life quite seriously, depression can appear as a consequence.
In women with a chocolate cyst it can appear with signs such as severe pain in the groin and lower abdominal area, painful urination, painful defecation, and bleeding and pain during sexual intercourse. Because these signs are not taken seriously by women, early diagnosis of the chocolate cyst is not possible.
However, while quality of life falls because of these signs, social life is also affected negatively. The healthy relationship the person has with her partner is put at risk, and sexual reluctance can in the long term make the person feel inadequate and thus trigger depression.
IT MAKES SOCIAL LIFE PASSIVE
Problems such as severe pain and painful menstrual bleeding also make the person socially passive. Because she experiences these problems, she avoids going out and spending time with people, and because of the pain in particular she also has difficulties in her working life.
When all these problems come together, a constant state of stress, withdrawal from the social environment and a feeling of failure in what she does bring about depression.
DO NOT LET ENDOMETRIOSIS TURN YOUR LIFE INTO A NIGHTMARE
Endometriosis, called the chocolate cyst because of its appearance and texture, becomes, when treated, a problem after which it is possible for the person to have a much healthier and more comfortable life.
Because the chocolate cyst is a condition that becomes difficult to treat when it is not diagnosed early, it must certainly be taken into account. The chocolate cyst, which in the long term makes it harder to become pregnant and can cause infertility, can be brought under control with medication and can also be treated with surgery.
In the treatment of endometriosis, the aim is to raise the person’s quality of life and to enable her to carry on with her life in good health. When women have their gynaecological examinations regularly, the chocolate cyst stops being a problem that affects life negatively.
