Attention to those with these diseases
According to a wide-ranging study, it has been found that endometriosis (the chocolate cyst), fibromyalgia and autoimmune diseases are related.
According to a retrospective study using the computerised databases of Maccabi Healthcare Services (MHS), a health plan of 2.1 million people in Israel, out of 781,571 adult women, 6,647 were diagnosed with endometriosis (8.5 per 1,000) and 25,425 with fibromyalgia (32 per 1,000).
The results of this study show that fibromyalgia is common in 6% of women with endometriosis, compared with 3.2% of the general population. Another important outcome of the study is that women with both endometriosis and fibromyalgia are more likely to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, anxiety or depression, and are characterised by increased use of health services.
