Endometriosis of the bladder
In 1 to 2 per cent of women with endometriosis, endometrial lesions are seen in the urinary tract. The diagnosis of bladder endometriosis, which has non-specific symptoms such as frequent urination, pelvic pain and burning when passing urine, is difficult.
In March 2019, Dr Gonçalves and colleagues, who retrospectively examined the preoperative and postoperative data, the intraoperative findings, the type of surgical procedure and the intraoperative and postoperative complications of a total of 10 patients, showed that bladder endometriosis can be treated in two ways.
Of the 10 patients studied, 2 underwent laparoscopic shaving of the bladder lesion, while 8 underwent laparoscopic partial cystectomy, and afterwards the clinical symptoms were seen to improve.
