In the world, the condition that causes the most deaths after heart disease is cancer. Gynaecological cancers stand out more among the other cancers. The rate of deaths due to cancer increases further with every passing year, and it is thought that in the coming years it will overtake heart diseases. The developments in technology and many of the medical studies carried out are directed at eliminating cancer. For this reason, significant progress is being made in this field. With the robotic surgical method, which has become increasingly widespread in recent years, significant successes are being achieved in cancer treatment. Especially in gynaecological cancers, gratifying results are being seen thanks to robotic surgery. In operations performed with the robot named Da Vinci, significant advances are being made in cancer treatment.

How Is Robotic Surgery Applied?
In gynaecological cancers, the robotic surgical method is in fact a technologically more advanced form of laparoscopy, popularly known as closed surgery. Just as in the laparoscopic method, in this method too it is carried out with the help of a camera through incisions smaller than 1 cm made into the patient’s abdominal cavity. The procedure is performed by entering through these incisions with the surgical instruments on the robotic arms. The camera used in the robotic surgical method provides a three-dimensional image and for this reason a considerably wide field of vision is obtained. Thanks to the precise robotic arms, doctors can work in smaller areas with almost zero error. In this way the operation also becomes more comfortable for the patient.

The Types of Cancer Treated
With the robotic surgical method, the surgical treatment of many gynaecological cancers, first and foremost cancer of the cervix, of the uterus and of the ovary, can be performed. Cervical cancer and ovarian cancer are among the 10 most frequently encountered cancers in our country. Especially in ovarian cancer, even if it has been diagnosed while still in its first stage, the risk of loss of life is considerably high. In the treatment of this cancer the first aim is the clearance of all tumours until none remains visible to the eye. Thanks to the Da Vinci Robotic Surgery System, tumours can readily be cleared through the tiny incisions made in the body. The rapid recovery process after the operation also affects patients positively in psychological terms and adds a great plus to cancer treatment in general.
