Laparoscopy is an imaging system that opens the way to examining the organs inside the abdomen in detail. With this method, together with the internal structure of the uterus, the fallopian tubes and the ovaries can be examined in detail. Laparoscopy also helps in imaging the other organs inside the abdomen. The procedure begins by making an incision of approximately 1 cm in the navel. From here the inside of the abdomen is inflated with gas, lit up and viewed with a camera. In addition, at the same time a surgical procedure can also be performed through incisions of 3 to 5 mm made in the lower areas of the abdomen. The laparoscopy procedure is also popularly known as bloodless or scalpel-free surgery. Hysteroscopy is at the head of the methods most preferred especially to understand the situation inside the uterus. In hysteroscopy, on the other hand, the inside of the uterus can be examined by entering with a camera through the vagina, without making any incision.

WHEN IS LAPAROSCOPY PERFORMED?
The laparoscopy procedure can be performed for many reasons. Depending on the reason for which it is performed, the time within the menstrual cycle at which laparoscopy will be carried out also varies. In the procedure carried out for suspected infertility, laparoscopy needs to be performed within a few days following the end of the menstrual period. Likewise, for the hysteroscopy procedure the period needs to have just ended. At this point the specialist doctor decides when the laparoscopy will be carried out. Diagnostic laparoscopy takes approximately half an hour. However, in procedures carried out for treatment this time becomes even longer. This procedure is performed under general anaesthetic. Today, the laparoscopy procedure should be preferred in making the diagnosis of almost every kind of gynaecological condition or in being able to apply its treatment.

IN WHICH SITUATIONS IS IT NOT APPLIED
There are some situations in which the laparoscopy procedure cannot be applied. In the procedure, the abdominal cavity is inflated with gas given for imaging. For this reason the laparoscopy procedure is not much preferred in people who are very overweight. Apart from this, the laparoscopy procedure also cannot be performed in patients in whom there are no bowel movements or who have a serious heart or lung condition. In situations other than these, the laparoscopy procedure is applied successfully. Afterwards it is enough for patients to rest for approximately 2 hours. However, when it is chosen as a treatment this time may become even longer. That the incisions made in the body for laparoscopy are very small also means a rapid recovery after the operation. In addition, in the future these marks reach a level at which they can hardly be seen and disappear.
