Although giving birth and becoming a mother is the most beautiful feeling in the world for a woman, from time to time it can also become women’s nightmare. What is told about normal birth taking a very long time and about the severity of the pains experienced in this process causes women always to be apprehensive about the birth process. Today, epidural birth, also known as painless birth, offers women the opportunity both to have a normal birth and not to suffer pain during the birth. For this reason, although this much-requested method is quite popular, it may not be suitable for every expectant mother.

A Normal Birth Is Not a Dream

That the normal birth process is very valuable in terms of the communication between mother and baby is a story engraved in people’s minds. In fact, whether the birth is by caesarean section or normal, the bond expected to form between mother and baby forms at first sight. How the birth will take place is determined depending on both the course of the pregnancy and the person’s physical build. Many doctors do not prefer birth by caesarean section in this process unless it is considered necessary. In a normal birth, pains also called labour pains begin at certain intervals in the groin, back and abdominal area. How often the pains come and their severity give information about when the birth will begin. For women who cannot bear the severity of the pains or who are apprehensive about them, epidural birth is seen as a miraculous technique. Epidural birth takes place painlessly just as in a caesarean section, but the baby is not taken out through an incision in the abdominal area and is born the normal way.

Is Epidural Birth Risky?

As with every birth method, there are also some risks in epidural birth. For this reason the epidural is not recommended for expectant mothers who have a problem of low blood pressure or who are very overweight. In some cases there is a possibility that the epidural procedure will be unsuccessful and, if it is unsuccessful, it is possible that pain will be felt during the birth. The epidural is not applied if the person has an allergic constitution or has an allergy to anaesthesia; if there is a low platelet count in their blood values; if their spine is not suitable for anaesthesia to be given and if the expectant mother has an infection. Apart from this, if the expectant mother’s preference is in favour of an epidural birth and her doctor also approves it, a normal birth can be carried out in this way.
